A gas-line break has shut down several businesses and TRAX trains in a portion of South Salt Lake.

A crew digging out to repair a water main near 256 W. 3300 South Saturday accidentally struck a gas line about 2:15 p.m., said South Salt Lake Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Bowman.

Firefighters closed off 3300 South from 300 West to West Temple, evacuated businesses on the north side of the street and shut down TRAX service through the area until the leak can be shut down.

Bowman expected everything to reopen around 4 p.m. In the meantime, the Utah Transit Authority is bussing people between the Millcreek and Central Pointe stations.
