NFL • Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after speeding down a street in Raleigh, N.C., on Saturday, bringing the troubled Pro Bowler's already cloudy future into more doubt.

Gordon was taken into custody after being pulled over for going 50 mph in a 35 mph zone on U.S. 70 in northwest Raleigh around 3 a.m. Saturday, a police spokesman said. He was later released on bail.

The 23-year-old wide receiver has been in trouble before off the field. He was suspended two games last season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, but still led the league with 1,646 yards receiving.

Gordon reportedly failed another drug test during the offseason, which could lead to a season-long ban. In May, he was ticketed for speeding and a passenger in his car was cited for marijuana possession. He pleaded not guilty and has a hearing in the case scheduled for next Friday. Gordon was at team's recent mini-camp, but has declined interviews.

• The Atlanta Falcons have placed receiver Drew Davis on the physically unable to perform list for training camp after recent foot surgery. Coach Mike Smith said that Davis, a three-year veteran, "felt some discomfort in his foot at the end of minicamp" last month and has undergone surgery. Davis caught 16 passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns last season. He is not expected to return to the field for six weeks.

Montoya claims first IndyCar pole

Auto racing • Juan Pablo Montoya had a two-lap average of 223.871 mph Saturday at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., for his first carer IndyCar pole. Driving for Team Penske in his open-wheel return after seven years in NASCAR, the Colombian knocked off Penske teammate Will Power on the final qualifying run.

Carlos Munoz joins Montoya and Power on the front row.

Montoya won a Pocono pole in NASCAR in August 2012.

• Formula One championship leader Nico Rosberg claimed pole position for the British Grand Prix in Silverstone, England. Defending four-time champion Sebastian Vettel qualified second for Red Bull and McLaren's Jenson Button was third.
