Here's what's being talked about in pop culture that isn't about Germany winning the World Cup:

• "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" topped the weekend box-office, with an estimated $73 million. [Box Office Mojo]

• Nickelodeon has canceled "Sam & Cat," a teen sitcom that paired "iCarly's" Jennette McCurdy and "Victorious' " Ariana Grande — both of whom can now freely pursue their musical careers and Miley Cyrus-style makeovers. [Entertainment Weekly]

• Tommy Ramone, the drummer of the pioneering punk band The Ramones, has died at the age of 65. Tommy, born Erdelyi Tamas, was the last original member of the band. [The Washington Post]
