Salt Lake City police are asking the public's help in corralling a particularly slippery felonious fugitive.

On Wednesday, SLCPD release photographs of 31-year-old Andrew Barela, who is wanted on numerous warrants connected to automobile theft and other crimes. Barela, police say, has been spotted before in stolen vehicles but so far has managed to elude officers by speeding away or fleeing on foot.

Barela — described as a 5-foot-11, 165-pound Latino with brown hair and eyes — was last seen in west Salt Lake City's Rose Park area. He especially favors the areas of 800 North to 900 West and 1600 West, Ivy Circle and Talisman Drive.

In all, he has four $25,000 active arrest warrants out relating to possession of a stolen vehicle and alleged probation violations.

Anyone who sees Barela is asked to avoid contact with him. Instead, call SLCPD at 801-799-3000 or text the keyword TIPSLCPD plus information to 274637.
