Letter: Injured dog deserved sheriff's help

I read and re-read the story about the woman left to make it down Mount Timpanogos on her own.

The woman had an adopted child (dog) that was injured, and the Utah County Sheriff said they could not waste the time or effort to help the woman and her child down the mountain. She was on her own.

People adopt animals to help and love, as they would a child.
