Unified Police say a 34-year-old man was in the hospital Friday after leading officers on a high-speed chase from the back of a stolen motorcycle and then engaging in a brief standoff at his parents' home.

Spotted by officers early Friday morning riding the bike along 1300 South near 300 West. UPD Sgt. Ken Hansen said when the officers matched the bike to one on a "hot sheet" for stolen vehicles, the tried to pull the suspect over.

Instead, he sped away. However, the chase ended a short time later when the man crashed near 300 W. Lucy Avenue (1200 South), in Salt Lake City. He then fled into his parents' home, where he refused to come out.

Attempts at negotations failed, so a police dog was sent inside to subdue the man; he sustained a bite to the leg before being taken into custody.

The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for the bite, after which he was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing police.
