Ogden • Longtime Weber State assistant basketball coach Phil Beckner is leaving the program.

Beckner has accepted a job as an assistant coach with the Tulsa 66ers, who are the NBA Development League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Beckner has spent the last seven years at Weber State, where he helped guide the Wildcats to three Big Sky regular-season championships.

"Our whole program is excited and happy for Phil," Weber State head coach Randy Rahe said. "No one has been more dedicated, loyal or invested in our program than Phil has been for the last seven years. He has been a huge part of the success we've had. We are truly going to miss him."

A native of Buckeye, Ariz., Beckner graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan., where he played four years of basketball. He obtained a bachelor's degree in physical education in 2005.
