Utah caterer earns national ranking

Inc. magazine has ranked Cuisine Unlimited, a Salt Lake City catering company, on its list of 5,000 fastest-growing privately held companies in America. "We are honored to be included for the third year in the Inc. 5,000 list," said company president Maxine Turner. The average company on the list achieved a three-year growth of 516 percent. The companies are featured in the September issue of Inc., on newsstands. Company profiles also can be found at http://www.inc.com/inc5000.

Tomato Days Dine around

During the monthlong Tomato Days Dine Around, order the heirloom tomato specials at various restaurants and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Wasatch Community Gardens to help pay for educational classes and programs. Eight Salt Lake City restaurants are participating.

Students get free breakfast on Sept. 3

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade can get a free breakfast at McDonald's to help them kick off the new school year. The meal includes an egg McMuffin, apple slices or yogurt and choice of milk or juice. Students must be present and accompanied by a parent to get the deal.

Gardeners gather for speed weeding event

During the Real Food Rising "speed weeding" event, meet people with similar interests and help weed the nonprofit farm, which provides job training and entrepreneurship opportunities for high-school-age workers. Participants in "speed weeding" will be placed across from each other in the garden and will get five minutes to weed, harvest and chat with those nearby. When the "gong" sounds, participants will move in opposite directions to talk to someone new. Light farm refreshments will be served.

Dinner Around the World festival

The Garden Terrace, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Salt Lake City, will host a Dinner Around the World festival to raise funds for Parkinson's Disease Foundation. Attendees can sample foods from a variety of countries from Australia to Venezuela. The event also includes children's activities, live music, a car show and prizes.

Opa! Greek Festival starts Friday

The 39th annual Salt Lake City Greek Festival takes place this weekend with Greek food, folk dancing, music, cooking demonstrations, church tours and a children's midway. Organizers have returned to a three-day schedule this year. All proceeds benefit the church as well as local charities.
