Layton's MTC gets $60M contract in Kentucky

Layton-based Management & Training Corp. (MTC) has received a $60 million, two-year contract to operate the Job Corps facility in Morganfield, Ky.

MTC will begin running the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Academy, the second largest in the Job Corps system, on June 1. Situated near Kentucky's border with Illinois and Indiana, the facility houses 1,300 students from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio.

Academy students can earn high school diplomas, receive general education and training in construction, health sciences and automotive repairs.

MTC now operates 26 Job Corps centers across the United States, as well as 12 private correctional facilities in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Ohio and Texas. The company also has an International Workforce Development Division.

Taking applications

Money available for workplace safety programs

The Utah Labor Commission is accepting applications to receive funding from its Workplace Safety Account. The account is funded by 0.25 percent of workers' compensation premiums, and is awarded to companies for workplace safety programs.

This fiscal year will have $300,000 in award money, which can be given to Utah businesses, community-based organizations, nonprofits and local associations.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. April 30.

MediConnect CEO named year's top entrepreneur

Amy Rees Anderson, chief executive officer of South Jordan-based MediConnect Global Inc., has been selected by Mountain West Capital Network as its entrepreneur of the year.

Anderson is the first woman chosen for the honor, according to Mountain West, a business networking organization.

MediConnect is an online medical record retrieval services business. Anderson has increased the company's revenue by nearly 850 percent in the past four years. The company has recently embarked on a global expansion.
