Ogden » A jury has acquitted a man charged in a 1984 slaying at a gas station just south of Brigham City.
The jury on Tuesday found 54-year-old Wade Maughan not guilty of first-degree felony murder.
A second man, Glenn Howard Griffin, is serving life without parole in the Utah State Prison after he was convicted in 2008 of the murder of 22-year-old Bradley Newell Perry. Griffin was linked to the 1984 slaying of the service station attendant in 2005 through DNA found in blood on a dollar bill.
The jury had seen a nearly two-hour videotaped confession from Maughan recorded on Nov. 3, 2005. But defense attorney Rich Mauro said Maughan was tricked into confessing by Box Elder County detectives.
Mauro said no evidence at the crime scene, such as fingerprints or blood on clothing, pointed to Maughan.
