The driver of a semi hauling a load of hogs was seriously injured Tuesday night when his cab rolled after hitting a trailer being pulled by a pickup on Interstate 15 in Beaver County.
The semi was hauling at least 90 hogs . About 30 had to be destroyed after being injured in the accident. Some escaped, creating a potential danger to motorists.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Cameron Roden, said it took two hours to extricate the semi's driver who was flown to a Salt Lake City hospital.
No one else was injured in the accident just before midnight.
An investigation is under way to determine why the semi, owned by a Montana company, ran into the trailer, but Roden said it might be due to problems with the trailer's rear lights.
Roden said the freeway's right southbound lane was closed until 6:30 a.m. Wednesday while the scene was cleaned up.
