I am a Utah transplant of nearly a decade, and I just saw the premiere of "8: The Mormon Proposition" at the Sundance Film Festival ("Moviegoers applaud Prop. 8 film critical of LDS Church," Tribune , Jan. 25). I have come to hold tremendous respect for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and our state government, due to our balanced state budget and many of the general efficiencies of operations in Utah.

Homosexuality occurs not only in around 10 percent of humans, but it also occurs in almost all species. If God did not want homosexuality to exist, why would he have created it in all species as well? This documentary traces the paper trail that connects the church's activities to the $22 million raised to support California's anti-gay marriage Proposition 8. When people see it, the LDS Church and the people of Utah will be badly hurt at a potentially catastrophic level. This documentary is powerful, and ultimately, the actions the LDS Church took toward Prop. 8 will become a great black eye for the church along the lines of its policies toward black people prior to 1978.
