A Bountiful man has been charged with fatally beating his girlfriend's ex-husband earlier this month.

Heneli (Henry) Kalainisi Kaufusi, 35, was charged Tuesday in 2nd District Court with one count of first-degree felony murder for the Oct. 14 death of 37-year-old Sione Mangisi.

Kaufusi "struck, kicked and stomped on the victim multiple times, which resulted in the victim's death," according to charging documents.

The attack occurred in front of a Bountiful home, located in the 3500 block of Lexington Drive, where Mangisi's ex-wife and children live, and where Kaufusi also lives, according to police.

Police believe Mangisi came to the home to see his children, but have said they do not know what sparked the confrontation,

Officers responded to a 911 call about two men fighting outside the home. The caller reported that Kaufusi was standing over the other and that he was allegedly "swinging at" and "stomping" the victim, according to a jail document.

Kaufusi also allegedly threw Mangisi into the street, where he got back on his feet, the jail document adds.

When an officer arrived, he saw Kaufusi with bloody hands and clothing, a ripped tank top and a cut under one of his eyes. Both men were placed in handcuffs.

"Medical attention was provided to [Mangisi] as all officers on scene were concerned that he could have a major head injury based on the amount of trauma to the face and head that we observed," the jail document reads. A medical helicopter was called but did not transfer Mangisi because he died at the scene.

Kaufusi, who also was treated at the scene, was booked into the Davis County Jail.

An initial court appearance was set for Friday.
