Record-setting quarterback Riley Nelson confirmed on KUTV Ch. 2 Sunday night that he has made an oral commitment to play at Utah State University.

Nelson, who had been recruited by schools such as Utah and Washington, set a state record with 84 total touchdowns in leading Logan to the Class 3-A state championship. He's expected to serve an LDS Church mission before playing for the Aggies.

Also making an oral commitment this weekend was Bingham quarterback Stetson Peck. Peck, a first-team all-state selection, said he plans on signing with Southern Utah University.

In other prep football news, two schools filled coaching vacancies, and one school is back to the drawing board. Spanish Fork hired Matt Christensen, 27, as its new coach, and Timpanogos hired Brad Molen to fill its vacancy.

Molen, who lives in Utah County, agreed to become Kearns' new head coach in December, but pursued the T-wolves' job so that he could stay closer to home. The Cougars will renew their search for a new coach.
