Orem and Maple Mountain won in drastically different ways to advance to the Class 4A boys' soccer state championship game on Tuesday night.

Orem was able to beat Cyprus in a penalty shootout after the game ended in a 2-all tie.

Cyprus started the game quickly with a goal from Jose Hidalgo in the second minute, but Orem rallied to tie it at 1 six minutes later on a goal by Tyler Fowler.

The Tigers then took the lead in the 31st minute when sophomore Sam Morato slotted the ball home. But one minute later, Cyprus' Aron Ortiz-Alvarado scored when his unintended shot went over the head of Tiger goalkeeper Josh Parker when he ran off of his line to help his defender.

In the shootout, both teams scored on their first five shots before Orem made a stop on the sixth Cyprus attempt to advance to the title game.

Maple Mountain cruised to a win in its semifinal, beating Mountain View 3-0 behind two goals from leading scorer Dawson Beutler.

After a physical first half with few scoring opportunities, Beutler was finally able to end the scoring drought in the 51st minute. Beutler then left no doubt about his second goal when he blasted a shot from outside the 18-yard box past the arms of backup goalkeeper Drew Hathaway in the 53rd minute.

A third goal from teammate Ian Stonehocker in the 66th minute would seal Mountain View's fate as Maple Mountain continued their march to the state title game.
