Slide show on Bhutan trek to raise money for canyons

Salt Lake photographer Howie Garber of Wanderlustimages presents a slide show, "Land of the Thunder Dragon: Cultural Trekking in the Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan," Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. at Brewvies Cinema Pub, 677 S. 200 West, Salt Lake City.

'Flying Kangaroos'

Snowbasin Resort in Huntsville is the official North American home resort of the Australian Women's Aerial Team, also known as "The Flying Kangaroos." The team will be signing posters Saturday in Earl's Lodge from 2 to 5 p.m. The team is training at Snowbasin through February.

Bald Eagle Day is Jan. 20 at Bear River Refuge

The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge west of Brigham City is hosting a Bald Eagle Day on Jan. 20. Jen Hajj, HawkWatch International education director, will present a bald eagle identification course at 10:30 a.m. The course includes a two-hour, guided car tour of the refuge, where participants will look for eagles. Nature photographer Ted Steinke will share his amazing images of local bald eagles in a 2 p.m. presentation titled "Eagles of the Great Salt Lake Region." The cost is $1 per person or $5 per family. The wildlife education center at Bear River Refuge is at 2155 W. Forest St., near Brigham City. Take exit 363 off I-15 and travel west one block to the center.

Blue Ribbon Fisheries Advisory meeting

The state-appointed Blue Ribbon Fisheries Advisory Council is meeting Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Utah Department of Natural Resources Building, 1594 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City. The council will hear project proposals from the state's five regions. The meeting is open to the public.

Citizen lobby training

The Utah Rivers Council and Healthy Environment Alliance of Utah are offering a Citizen Lobby Training clinic Jan. 18. Participants will learn the basics of lobbying state legislators. They will also receive a preview of the 2007 legislative session and a tour of the State Capitol. A state legislator will also be on hand for a conversation on the topic. Free REI clinics

REI is holding the Atlas Explore Winter Women's Snowshoeing Workshop Wednesday at the Salt Lake store, 3285 E. 3300 South, East Millcreek, and Jan. 18 at the Sandy store, 10600 S. 230 West.

Participants will learn snowshoeing basics from Atlas athletes and get a free goodie bag. Both clinics start at 7 p.m.
