Boys' basketball: Classes 5A, 4A, 1A semifinal standout performers and key numbers

A look at standout performers and key numbers from Friday's semifinal round of the Class 4A and 5A boys' basketball state tournament at Weber State University and the Class 1A boys' tournament at the Sevier Valley Center.

Cobe Reck

The Valley senior point guard and team leader finished with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal to lead the Buffaloespast Rich in overtime and into the Class 1A state title game.

Maxwell McGrath

Not only did the Lone Peak senior score 21 points, but he had the responsibility of guarding Copper Hills standout Stockton Shorts. Although Shorts finished with a game-high 28 points, McGrath flustered him into shooting 9 of 20 from the floor.

Preston Fowlks

The Bingham senior reserve drained 3 of his 5 attempts from long range and finished tied for the Miners' scoring lead with 13 points. He added a steal and two rebounds.

Acey Orton

The Panguitch sophomore scored 21 points, hauled down eight rebounds and dished out two assists to lead the Bobcats to the Class 1A state title game.

Andrew Slack

The Springville senior, who also was a key contributor during the Red Devils' run into the Class 4A football finals, scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the boys' basketball team into the state title game.

Rylan Jones

The Olympus sophomore guard tallied a team-high 21 points along with six rebounds and six assists in the comeback win over Corner Canyon to reach the Class 4A state championship game.

The number of points Olympus trailed by with 7 minutes, 7 seconds left in the second quarter. The Titans wouldn't capture the lead until the third quarter, when they led 52-50.

The free-throw percentage for Valley in its overtime win over Rich in their Class 1A semifinal. The Buffaloes went 18 of 22, mising only two in he fourth quarter and overtime.

Number of points Springville scored in one trip down the floor early in the fourth quarter. Hillcrest, which committed a flagrant foul on a layup, saw the deficit balloon from three to 10 before getting back the ball with 4:57 remaining.

The number of points Panguitch scored during a key stretch to take control over rival Bryce Valley. The 21-2 run turned the tide in the Bobcats' favor in their Class 1A semifinal.

The number of Lone Peak Knights who scored in double figures — Steven Ashworth (22 points), Maxwell McGrath (21 points), Nathan Harkness (21) and Max Brenchley (10 points).

Number of 3-point makes for Bingham as Lleyton Parker had four, Preston Fowlks nailed three and Tanner Davis swished a pair.
