Car hits, kills woman on BYU campus | The Salt Lake Tribune

A Provo woman died after a car hit her while she was crossing a street Sunday on the Brigham Young University campus.

Jessica Raylene Wilson, 28, was walking with a friend about 8 p.m. when they tried to cross North Campus Drive (1230 North) at 600 East despite facing a red light at the traffic signal, said BYU police Lt. Arnold Lemmon. A 27-year-old was driving his Nissan Altima west toward the intersection with a green light when he heard another driver honk a horn and looked away from the road, Lemmon said.

When he looked back, the women were in the crosswalk in front of him, Lemmon said. He tried to swerve, but the Altima hit both pedestrians.

Wilson was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where she died. Her friend, an Estonian national who was visiting Wilson, suffered a critical compound fracture to her leg and was taken to a hospital. She is expected to survive, Lemmon said.

Wilson, originally from Rexburg, Idaho, was a BYU graduate, Lemmon said.
