After only 18 months in business, Donovan's Steak & Chop House at 134 W. Pierpont Ave. has closed.

Officials from the corporate office, (in La Jolla, Calif.) notified Salt Lake City managers on Saturday, Oct. 2, that the restaurant would no longer be in business, said General Manager Casey Bulkley.

On Monday and Tuesday Bulkley was working to get the 55 employees placed at other area restaurants.

The economy and the saturation of high-end steak houses in downtown Salt Lake City are two likely reason for the closure, he said.

"There's a clientele in this community (for high-end steak) and we found a lot of them," he said. "But right now people are watching their money."

He added that the closing was a disappointment "because the local community was really supportive of us."

Donovan's three other restaurants in La Jolla, San Diego and Phoenix will remain open.
