Peterson: 'Pick your poison' with acquisition of Moss

Adrian Peterson said the acquisition of Randy Moss made him feel like a kid in a candy store. He also compared it to Christmas.

His excitement is understandable. While most of the trade talk has focused on Moss' potential impact on the Vikings' struggling pass game, the threat of his big-play capability and downfield speed should also loosen things up for Peterson and the running game.

"That was my initial thought when I heard the news," Peterson said, "It's going to make the offense more dynamic, definitely give us that deep threat and open up the run game."

Both Peterson and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell used the phrase "pick your poison" to describe how Moss' presence could affect defensive game plans.

Not enough fingers to point in Chicago

After reviewing the video evidence detailing the Chicago Bears' woeful performance in protecting their quarterbacks during a 17-3 loss to the New York Giants, coach Lovie Smith elected not to point fingers.

Perhaps because he needs more fingers.

The Bears allowed 10 sacks — nine in the first half — and starting quarterback Jay Cutler wound up on the sideline with a concussion from the series of hits he took from the Giants. The concussion was severe enough to sideline Cutler this week, turning the quarterback job over to veteran Todd Collins. Cutler is officially out for Sunday's game at Carolina.

"We allowed the quarterback to get hit too many times," Smith said.

Around the league

Vikings • Quarterback Brett Favre was limited Friday because tendinitis in his throwing elbow that has been troubling him in recent weeks doesn't seem to be improving.

Raiders • Running back Darren McFadden has been ruled out of Sunday's game against San Diego with a right hamstring injury.

Jets • Darrelle Revis wants to play. He hopes his balky left hamstring allows him. The New York cornerback said it's his "best bet" to wait until Sunday or Monday before deciding for sure whether he can play against Minnesota on Monday night. Week 5 schedule
