Gentle tone overdue

LDS First Presidency counselor Dieter Uchtdorf's "gentle tone" about gays and lesbians is long overdue, timely and welcome ("LDS leader weighs in on same-sex attraction," Tribune, Oct. 26). Whether it can offset the harm done by those who call inborn tendencies "impure and unnatural' remains to be seen. Words do hurt. The incidence of suicide among gay youth is alarming and real.

Thank you, Salt Lake Tribune, for covering this important issue of equality and dignity for all people, regardless of whom they love.
