Father and daughter killed in Thanksgiving Day crash

The Utah Highway Patrol identified two people killed in a Duchesne County crash Thursday as a father and daughter — front-seat passenger Stuart William Lewis, 43, and Karalee Lewis, 18, the driver.

The two died at the scene after their Oldsmobile Silhouette van was hit by a semitrailer. UHP reported the fatal accident happened around noon at the intersection of State Road 208 and State Road 35 near the town of Tabiona.

The van was pulling out of a stop sign on State Road 208 to make a left turn west on State Road 35 when the semitrailer hit it on the driver's side. Both vehicles went off the road and came to a stop on the north side of SR 35, UHP said.

Three other family members in the van, all from American Fork, were mother Trudy Ann Lewis, 46; James Andrew Lewis, 15; and Abigail Lewis, 11.

Siblings James and Abigail Lewis were in critical and serious condition, respectively, at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City on Friday. Trudy Lewis was in serious condition at University Hospital. All five family members in the van were wearing seat belts, UHP said.

The driver of the semitrailer was identified as William Lefler. He was not injured.

The roadway was closed for six hours after the accident, UHP reported.
