Becker elected to National League of Cities' board

First-term Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker has been elected to the 2011 National League of Cities' board of directors.

The election occurred during the league's Congress of Cities and Exposition earlier this month in Denver. Becker was one of 19 new members selected for the board.

"As cities navigate the effects of the economic downturn, local leaders are setting the foundation for innovation and long-term growth," league President James Mitchell Jr. said in a news release. "In the coming year, I will look to Mayor Becker and our entire board of directors to engage our members to ensure all of NLC's services and programs return the value they need."

The National League of Cities, a resource for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, is the nation's oldest and largest organization charged with promoting cities as centers of leadership, opportunity and governance.
