Whittingham might adopt Twitter policy for his players after incident

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham wasn't the happiest of guys Tuesday at the Las Vegas Bowl press conference as he had to answer for the actions of his players once more. The smack talk between the teams continued in cyberspace with Utah receiver DeVonte Christopher tweeting Monday "I can't wait to get out here wit these Boise State or should I say Girlse State they a bunch of cheerleaders...lol." Christopher later gave a shoutout to all his new Boise State followers. While some schools ban their athletes from using social media, Utah doesn't have such a policy, allowing the various programs to set their own guidelines. Whittingham said he might have to rethink his policy of not having a policy. "First I have to make a Twitter policy," he said. "But I tell our guys to be smart with how they handle their business and for the most part they do that. But going forward, I might have to put some hard and fast policy in place and use it." Whittingham said there would be no disciplinary actions for Christopher but that the two had several conversations about it. "DeVonte's tweet wasn't real exciting for me but players get excited and emotional," he said. "I don't think he means anything by it, I think he thought he was conversing with some close friends but that is besides the point." During halftime of the Pepperdine-Utah basketball game, Utah defensive end Christian Cox guaranteed a victory while he was speaking to the crowd. On Sunday, players had a brief altercation during a gathering at the Hard Rock Cafe. Boise State coach Chris Petersen cut off a reporter when he tried to ask about the smack talk. "We're not worried about that and I know Utah isn't either," he said. Utah offensive lineman Zane Taylor apparently is one of the few who hadn't heard about Christopher's tweet by the time the press conference started. "I'm looking forward to finding out what that was all about," he said. Taylor said he believed all the talk was just the product of both teams being amped up for the game. "We're two very proud teams with great winning traditions and competitive players on both sides," he said. "We're competitive creatures. We're excited and anxious right now. I know I am feeling anxious. We can't wait for the game and if you can wait for the game, you shouldn't be playing football."
