"Master Mender," a musical passion play annually seen by thousands of northern Utah evangelical Christians, marks its 35th year this Easter season.

Ray and Cathi Smith, pastors at Salt Lake Christian Center, 4300 S. 700 East, first launched the multi-set, costumed production in 1982. The latest edition opened last Friday and resumes the remainder of its seven-performance run this Friday with a 7 p.m. showing at the church.

Additional performances will be Saturday, 6 p.m.; Sunday, 4 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, April 14-15, 7 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively; and then the finale on Easter Sunday, 4 p.m.

Cathi Smith said the production involves much of SLCC's membership as volunteer actors, musicians, set construction, props, lighting and special effects crew. The cast alone numbers 140 with another 60 involved in supportive roles.

Admission is free, but tickets should be ordered in advance due to seating restrictions. Those wanting tickets should visit http://www.mastermender.org/tickets/.
