Mormon leader Thomas S. Monson still hospitalized Wednesday

Thomas S. Monson, the 89-year-old president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, remained in the hospital Wednesday night, two days after being admitted.

LDS Church spokesman Eric Hawkins said Monson reported "not feeling well" Monday night and was admitted shortly thereafter. He has been receiving "treatment and fluids" since.

Hawkins declined to release specific details on the church leader's condition, or to say when the church leader was expected to return home.

The Utah-based faith just completed its 187th Annual General Conference, during which Monson — considered a "prophet, seer and revelator" in the 15.8 million-member faith — had given two brief speeches.

On Saturday evening, the frail leader addressed the all-male priesthood session, speaking about the importance of being kind.

The next morning, he opened the Sunday sessions with an announcement about plans to build five new LDS temples, followed by a short speech about the church's signature scripture, the Book of Mormon.

Monson did not attend either the Saturday or Sunday afternoon conference sessions, nor the women's meeting the week before. Traditionally, the Mormon prophet would have been present at all sessions.

A spokesman on Sunday said that Monson was "weary but well."

Monson has been president of the LDS Church for nine years and was an LDS general authority for more than five decades before that.
