Directions • In Zion National Park, travel about 3 miles from the main entrance of the park to the Grotto picnic area. The trailhead is across the road.

Head across the road from the parking lot at Grotto picnic area and cross the bridge over the Virgin River. Swing right and meander up the winding West Rim Trail for about a half a mile. The trail then hits a number of steep switchbacks that zigzag up the mountain wall. This area is paved. Don't forget to turn around and look at the wonderful views below. After another half mile, the trail straightens out and heads through a skinny yellow and red canyon with high cliffs and shade. The trail then turns and heads up about two dozen steep, but short, switchbacks, called Walter's Wiggle, that end at Scout Lookout. There are great views of the valley, a restroom, and, if you dare to continue, support chains to grab if you wish to ascend the thin cliff to Angel's Landing.
