Prep boys' soccer: Bingham beats Jordan 4-1 to remain unbeaten in Region 3

South Jordan • Bingham's dominance of Jordan continued Tuesday, as the Miners further solidified their place at top the Region 3 standings.

Corbin Lowrance scored the eventual game-winner as he flipped the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper and Bingham blew past the visiting Beetdiggers 4-1 for its sixth consecutive victory.

Isaiah Cardoso, Hayden Howard and Tommy Merniez each added goals for the defending region champion Miners (7-1, 5-0), who sit three points ahead of second-place Copper Hills.

Bingham beat Jordan for the sixth time in seven meetings since it joined Region 3 back in 2014.

"We just have so much confidence," Lowrance said. "We could be putting the ball in the back of the net some more, but we are finding a way to put away our chances."

The sophomore forward took a pass from Jacob Angeletti, turned and flipped the ball over a charging Sergio Mendoza in the 35th minute to give Bingham a 2-1 lead.

Beetdigger defenders seemed to slow up on the play after they saw the side official raise his flag to indicate offside. But it was Cardoso who was behind the defense, and since he didn't receive Angeletti's pass, the infraction was waved off.

"He just plays flawlessly," Bingham coach Ahmed Bakrim said of Lowrance, who is tied with Leo Sobreira for the team lead in goals. "He's so comfortable. He's always excited when he steps on the field. Confidence is very important and I always show him I believe in him."

Jordan's Talon Hathaway rocketed a shot into the upper right corner for the game's first goal in the 12th minute, but Cardoso answered with a spin and left-footed shot across the face of the goal to beat Mendoza.

"We started a little slow," Bingham coach Ahmed Bakrim said. "Being 1-0 down gave us a little wakeup call. I'm proud of their attitude. They didn't get their heads down when we got scored on."

Bingham controlled with game with possession as it connected multiple passes that left Jordan chasing all over the turf. And save for the first goal, the Miners responded well on the back line to threats from Jordan's quick-strike attack. —
