Everyone agrees that pizza is the perfect meal — but not every pizza is perfect.

That's why today we celebrate 10 restaurants along the Wasatch Front that make some of the best pizzas around, investing time, money and soul into making fresh dough and well-seasoned sauce, topping it off with quality meats, vegetables and cheeses.

Our picks are based on recent Salt Lake Tribune reviews as well as staff recommendations and pizza taste tests.

Best taste of Italy

Settebello • If you're searching for authentic Italian, this is the place, as Settebello makes pizza the way it was made in Napoli more than 200 years ago. Thin crust and fresh sauce and toppings make for a memorable eating experience. 260 S. 200 West, Salt Lake City; 801-322-3556; settebello.net

Best New York style

Este • Here, thin-crust slices are folded in half and eaten with your hands — no forks please. Create your own, or choose from specialty pizzas such as The Italian Flag with pizza sauce, ricotta and pesto. 156 E. 200 South, Salt Lake City, 801-363-2366 ; and 2021 Windsor Ave., Salt Lake City, 801-485-3699; estepizzaco.com

Best bargain

Pie Hole • Huge slices are less than $3 each. Look for creative toppings such as potato and bacon, or try a signature offering like the meat-lovers favorite with pepperoni, salami, onions and cremini mushrooms. 344 S. State St., Salt Lake City; 801-359-4653; pieholeutah.com

Best neighborhood spot

Vinto • A sophisticated atmosphere combined with unique wood-fired pizzas make this a great place for lunch and dinner. Try the Arrostita, which is topped with roasted zucchini, butternut squash, eggplant, fontina and goat cheese, or the Giovanni, with prosciutto di Parma, seasonal fruit, arugula, fontina and shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano. 418 E. 200 South, Salt Lake City; 801-539-9999; vinto.com

Best dough

Rusted Sun Pizzeria • Sturdy and thin in the middle and not shatteringly crisp at its edges, the crust here is just right. It serves as the perfect vehicle for eating generous portions of meat, cheeses and vegetables. 2010 S. State St., Salt Lake City; 801-483-2120; rustedsunpizzeria.com

Best upscale

Sea Salt • Clean and simple. That describes the restaurant's airy interior and its thin-crust wood-fired pizzas made with the best Italian ingredients, including San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo milk mozzarella and Grana Padano cheese. Be prepared to eat these thin-crusted pies as they do in the old country, with a sharp knife and fork. 1709 E. 1300 South, Salt Lake City; 801-349-1480; seasaltslc.com

Best South Davis

Arella Pizzeria • This pizzeria melds California gourmet, New York-style thin-crust and traditional Neapolitan pizza, and serves them all in one of the most beautiful restaurants you'll find in a strip mall. The signature Arella pizza has mozzarella, brie, and Gorgonzola cheese, plus caramelized pears and candied pecans, topped with arugula that has been tossed with house-made blue cheese dressing. 535 W. 400 North, Bountiful; 801-294-8800; arellapizzeria.com

Best Utah County

Pizzeria 712 • Extraordinary pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven at an intense 712 degrees. Toppings change with the seasons from heirloom tomatoes, basil and hand-pulled mozzarella in the summer to wild mushrooms, caramelized leeks and house-made ricotta in the fall. 320 S. State St., Ste. 147, Orem ; 801-623-6712 or pizzeria712.com

Best cheesy fix

The Pie • The original location near the University of Utah has a reputation as the funkiest place to enjoy pizza along the Wasatch Front. Besides the pillowy thick crust, The Pie's pizzas are noted for its slightly sweet tomato sauce and rich layer of cheese. This place has also earned a reputation for its substantial cheesy pull-a-parts, which are bigger than the medium-sized pizzas. 1320 E. 200 South, Salt Lake City; 801-582-5700 or thepie.com

Best Sunday supper

Stoneground • Stoneground serves great pizza every day, but the best time to try it out is Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m. Servers make the rounds filling your plate with hot-from-the-oven slices. 249 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City; 801-364-1368 or stonegroundslc.com
