The premiere of the movie "One Revolution" will be held in Park City on May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Eccles Center. Filmmakers followed Chris Waddell, paralyzed from the waist down, as he became the first person to reach the top of Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro (19,298 feet) with hand power alone. Waddell, a former Paralympic medalist now residing in Park City, will be in attendance. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. BLM Fee-Free Days
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced it will waive recreation-related fees for visitors to the National System of Public Lands on June 21 , Sept. 24 (National Public Lands Day) and Nov. 11-13 (Veterans Day holiday weekend). Individual day-use fees at BLM recreation sites and areas will be waived on those dates, but other fees will still be required.
Free Shooting Days
The Cache Valley Pubic Shooting Range in Logan is holding free shooting days and demonstrations May 13 and 14. Expert shooters, dressed as cowboys, will be demonstrating their skills on a course with stationary and pop-up targets. A reduced fee will be charged for those wanting to use the shotgun range. Free instruction will be provided and some equipment will be on hand for public use. The event will run from 3-8 p.m. on May 13 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 14. Cabins at Hyrum State Park
Hyrum State Park in Cache Valley has two log cabins now available for overnight rental. Each cabin sleeps up to eight people and is furnished with two log-style bunk beds, a table and chairs, power, heat, air conditioner, microwave, and refrigerator. • The Family Adventure Fun Fest is Monday, May 9, from 4-8 p.m. at the Salt Lake store, 3285 E. 3300 South, East Millcreek. Events include access to the climbing wall, a free REI Family Adventure Journal, a tent challenge, proper helmet fitting and information about places to hike, bike or camp.
• The Salt Lake store is holding a GPS basics clinic Tuesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. Participants receive a basic overview of the features and functions of a GPS unit. Instruction includes GPS setup, capturing waypoints, working with coordinates, and waypoint navigation.
• REI staffer Jon Higgins will provide vital information on getting started in mountain biking Thursday, May 12, at 7 p.m. at the Sandy store, 10600 S. 230 West. Learn the different styles of mountain biking, equipment, basic skills and where to ride.
