Utah Senate President Michael Waddoups, R-Taylorsville, recently said that before making any more changes to Utah's liquor laws, "We need some polling or scientific research before we change anything as sensitive as this. … We will need much more information other than anecdotal stories" ("Effort to cloak Utah liquor has eateries scrambling," Tribune, June 10).

This statement indicates that polling or scientific data had been gathered prior to the creation of the recent ridiculous Utah liquor laws, including the "Zion wall" that partitions restaurant patrons from the mixing of alcoholic drinks.

Surely Waddoups, Sen. John Valentine, R-Orem, et al., can show us the data that supports the changes included in the unwise Senate Bill 314, which becomes law July 1. Surely they would not have enacted these measures simply on the basis of "anecdotal stories."
