'The Playboy Club' finds a home in..

As expected, "The Playboy Club" has found a Utah television home. Just not the one a lot of people expected.

That home comes as a bit of a surprise — it's KMYU-Ch. 2.2, the sister station of CBS affiliate of KUTV-Ch. 2.

KMYU jumped at the chance to build a local presence that comes at no cost to the station.

KSL-Ch. 5, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, recently announced it would not carry the NBC series because the "Playboy brand" is incompatible with the "KSL brand," according to station management. The show itself is a relatively tame crime drama set in the early 1960s; the characters either work at or belong to the Chicago Playboy Club.

"We appreciate and respect the position of KSL," said Steve Carlston, the vice president and general manager of both KUTV and KMYU. "But we aren't governed by the same situation."

KMYU is an affiliate of My Network TV. Ch. 2.2 plans to air "The Playboy Club" in pattern — on Mondays at 9 p.m.

KUWB-Ch 30, the local CW affiliate, has picked up a lot of NBC programming KSL has declined to air for one reason or another. Ch. 30 regularly airs "Saturday Night Live."

But KUWB airs a nightly 9 p.m. newscast produced by its sister station, KTVX-Ch. 4, which it did not want to pre-empt for "The Playboy Club."
