Provo • Matchups with Oregon, Baylor and Virginia Tech and a trip to Illinois for the Chicago Invitational Challenge highlight BYU's 2011-12 men's basketball nonconference schedule, which was released Tuesday.

The Cougars' first season as a basketball member of the West Coast Conference will feature programs from 12 conferences and will include five teams that played in the NCAA Tournament last season.

The regular season begins at Utah State on Nov. 11 and is followed by a three-game homestand at the Marriott Center against BYU-Hawaii, Longwood and Prairie View A&M of the SWAC.

The Chicago Invitational takes place Nov. 25, when the Cougars take on Nevada at the Sears Centre Arena near Chicago. The other two major programs at the tournament are Bradley and Wisconsin.

On Nov. 30, the Cougars will play another neutral site game, this time at the Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley, Ariz., against Northern Arizona of the Big Sky Conference.

That's followed by seven straight games in Utah, as the Cougars open a run against Oregon on Dec. 3 at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City.

BYU plays host to in-state rival Weber State on Dec. 7, then travels to the Huntsman Center to meet Utah on Dec. 10. After that, the Cougars play Baylor (Dec. 17), Buffalo (Dec. 20), UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 22) and Cal State San Marcos (Dec. 27) at home.

The other nonconference game will take place Jan. 25 as the Cougars travel to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

West Coast Conference play begins on Dec. 29.

BYU's exhibition schedule begins on Oct. 28 against Midwestern State and will feature the return of former BYU guard Mike Loyd, Jr. On Nov. 4, BYU will play host to Dixie State College, where coach Dave Rose coached when it was a junior college.
