Letter: We take solace that our leaders are merely incompetent

Donald Trump's allies in the media and Congress take a large measure of comfort that the testimony of Sally Yates did not produce conclusive proof of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian attempts to sabotage our electoral process.

How low have we fallen? Is it not enough that Trump's national security adviser was a major security risk, that he lied to the vice president and remained in place for 18 days before any action to mitigate his potential damage to our national interest was taken? This is bad governance at best.

Yet Trump supporters are correct and they can celebrate that the Trump administration has only been shown to be broadly incompetent and that outright betrayal has not yet been proven.
