It is a sad day, as one more indie record store will be closing. Slowtrain Records sent out this message:

And here is the email I've been dreading to write to you all. Our D-Day is fast approaching and, while we've had A LOT of interest in buying the store, we have had no actual deals come together. So you know what this means, Slowtrain will be closing its doors and now is the time to start that process. We are so sorry, genuinely apologetic, that we couldn't do more to ensure that Slowtrain stayed around SLC without us. Like many of you, we are bummed, too, that we won't have Slowtrain around for us to continue building our own record collection. We've been in touch with the Graywhale folks and they are interested and eager to fill the void that Slowtrain will leave in the downtown community. We know their stores are much different from our own, but we are optimistic that they will find a way to provide for our customers so we all have a great place to continue to buy music here in Salt Lake City. Please continue to shop locally with independent record stores. If you can't find items locally we encourage you to reach out to some of our nationwide indie store owner friends (click here) - these stores are all very much like Slowtrain, and they would be happy to do some mail-order business with you if you can't find what you need here in town. This all means that this week will be our last "normal" week at Slowtrain. We have new releases (and there are lots of excellent ones!) and we'll have a small shipment of special orders coming in on Friday. But after Friday we aren't expecting any new shipments and we will stop ordering restocks and special orders altogether. If you have gift cards or outstanding trade at Slowtrain we suggest you start using them ASAP. If you are a local musician or artist with products on consignment with us we'll be contacting you in a week or two to begin closing out our contracts. If you are willing to take in-store-credit instead of cash for payment, that would help us out tremendously. You must have your pink copy of our consignment agreement to get payment on any sold merchandise, no exceptions. We will be closed all next week (Oct 30 - Nov 7) as we prepare for a big liquidation sale. So friends, get your holiday shopping done early and on the cheap and give the gift of music this year. We can stuff all of your stockings full - plus you'll be doing us a huge solid. We need to sell EVERYTHING so we can pay off debt and pay our hospital bill to get this bun out of my oven. So mark your calendars for November 8 and make sure you've got money in the bank - because it's going to be a great time to buy music in SLC. Thank you all for the last five years; we can't say that enough. It's really been amazing for us - we're proud of everything that Slowtrain is in this community and we'll be sad to see it go. But as bummed as we are, we're 1000 times more excited and thrilled for the new chapter about to begin in our lives. We can't wait to meet our baby girl, we hope many of you will get to meet her too. Don't be strangers...
