Utah forecast: Hard freeze warning issued for Wasatch Front

The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning covering portions of northern and central Utah for late Wednesday and early Thursday.

The advisory includes the Salt Lake and Tooele valleys, where sub-freezing temperatures — in places as chilly as the upper-20s — were expected. The warning also applies to the southern Wasatch Front and the San Rafael Swell region.

Daytime temperatures Wednesday and Thursday were forecast for the upper-40s to low-50s in northern Utah, while southern Utahns expected to see the mercury dip into the low-60s.

The state Department of Environmental Quality issued "Green" or healthy air ratings for all of Utah.

Salt Lake City's highs were pegged at 50 and 52 degrees for Wednesday and Thursday, respectively; Ogden expected 48 and 50 degrees; Provo 50 and 54; Logan 48 and 51; Wendover 46 and 52; Duchesne 46 and 47; Cedar City 49 and 57; St. George 63 and 68; and Moab 50 and 51 degrees.

The Utah Department of Transportation issued a warning to motorists for light mountain snow through noon Wednesday, especially in the areas southwest of northern Utah's Bear Lake and along S.R. 30 between Garden City and Laketown. Also of concern were southern Utah's S.R. 153 east of Beaver, S.R. 20 near its summit, S.R. 143/14 east of Cedar City and S.R. 12 over Boulder Summit.
