Bees: Walk-off, inside-the-park homer lifts Salt Lake over Iowa 5-4 in 11 innings

Nolan Fontana's walk-off inside-the-park home run — the first in Salt Lake Bees history — gave the Bees a 5-4 win over the Iowa Cubs in 11 innings in front of an announced 10,151 on Saturday night at Smith's Ballpark. The Bees have now won five straight and six of their past seven. Fontana's round-tripper was the Bees' 15th inside-the-park home run in franchise history and the first inside-the-park homer since June 25, 2013.

Fontana hit the first pitch from Cubs relief pitcher Dylan Floro into the left-center field gap where Cubs outfielders Mark Zagunis and John Andreoli converged. Zagunis made a diving attempt at a catch, but the ball glanced off his glove. Andreoli bobbled the ball slightly upon picking it up while Fontana motored around the bases.

Turning Point • Bees relief pitcher Justin Miller came into the game with the go-ahead run on third base and two outs in the 11th and recorded a strikeout to keep the game tied.

Bees MVP • Fontana hit the franchise's first walk-off home run since 2015 and put the Bees in position to earn a series sweep on Sunday. He'd been 0-for-4 going into that last at-bat.

Hidden Hero • Shane Robinson went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as well as a great running catch going toward the wall in center field to end the top of the ninth.

Flashing Leather • Fontana made a sliding catch in foul territory in the first inning, and he made a diving stop in the third and scrambled to his feet in time to throw out the runner at first.

Quoteworthy • "I'm still out of breath," Fontana said. "The guy likes to throw a lot of fastballs early in the count. I got a good pitch over the plate to hit, and I just hit it, put my head down and started running. I got around second base and saw [Keith Johnson] still waving his arm and I was like, 'Oh boy. I gotta kick it into gear.' "

Angel Angle • Angels infielder C.J. Cron continued his rehab assignment with the Bees on Saturday night. He started at first base and went 1-for-4 with a home run. He's now gone 5-for-12 during his rehab assignment.

HISTORY LESSON • The Bees held their 11th annual "Pack the Park Pink Night" at Smith's Ballpark on Saturday night. They raised $33,800 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
