USU Hoops: Aggies may lift Berger's redshirt

Aside from Preston Medlin, Utah State is desperate for perimeter scoring, as Steven Thornton, Mitch Bruneel and Adam Thoseby have each struggled to put the ball in the basket.

Enter Danny Berger. Maybe.

The 6-foot-7 shooting guard/small forward suited up on Wednesday at Denver, without playing a minute. But he's tall, can put the ball on the floor and he is one of the best three-point shooters on the team.

Problem is, Berger is three months removed from a mission. Stew Morrill typically redshirts his return missionaries, so they can acclimate themselves to the college game. But Berger is a special case.

Medlin has proven to be the only shooter on the team consistently capable of knocking down the three, and even he has had his rough spots. With Brady Jardine being the only inside threat, the Aggies clearly need more perimeter firepower. Coaches think Berger may be able to provide that.

A final decision has yet to be made. But the more Berger proves he can play in practice, the better his chances are of seeing time in a game.
