Utah Jazz will add two more players; no formal offer made to Josh Howard

General Manager Kevin O'Connor revisits the Deron Williams trade

O'Connor said the Jazz have had serious discussions with free agent small forward Josh Howard but a formal offer hasn't been made.

"I haven't made an official offer, no," O'Connor said. "That's incorrect. Have we talked about stuff? Yeah."

A source told The Salt Lake Tribune on Saturday that Howard's camp maintains the Jazz have made a "firm offer."

O'Connor said the Jazz will add a "couple more players" for training camp and they could be on the court Monday. They need to obtain FIBA clearance first.

Paul Carter is one of the players and is already in Salt Lake City. Scottie Reynolds is likely the other.

Jamaal Tinsley will have an opportunity to compete for a backup point guard spot with Keith McLeod. It doesn't appear Tinsely's contract is guaranteed and the Jazz could open the season with only two point guards.O'Connor said Earl Watson represents everything that's good about the NBA. Total professional.Jazz are still talking to Andrei Kirilenko and are open to signing him but nothing is imminent and talks are still in discussion-phase.Raja Bell still has a place on the Jazz, O'Connor said. He came into camp in good shape. Utah will have to see how everything plays out.O'Connor has no doubts that player development manager Mike Sanders can coach the Jazz's young big men. O'Connor wondered why anyone would think you have to be tall to be a good big-man coach in the NBA. Sanders played center at times at UCLA and, as a player, worked his way through the NBA. He can coach anyone, O'Connor said.O'Connor expects the Jazz will tread lightly with Mehmet Okur but acknowledged initial signs are promising.O'Connor said the Jazz told Enes Kanter this is the first step in a very long journey: he's going to fall before he stands up.Ronnie Price is still an option for the Jazz but it appears he won't have a shot to make the team during training camp. Could receive a call later this season.

O'Connor joked that when he first saw Gordon Hayward walk into the Jazz's practice facility he knew Jeremy Evans couldn't be far behind. O'Connor said Hayward clearly appears to be more confident this season.
