The Zion-Mount Carmel Highway through Zion National Park has reopened.
The highway is the main route through the middle of the park, connecting Springdale and Mt. Carmel Junction. A stream of heavy sand and rock debris closed the highway Friday afternoon near the west tunnel entrance along the highway.
Some sand and debris continued to fall Saturday afternoon, "but there is little chance for it to reach the roadway," a park news release said.
Park rangers and geologists from the Utah Geological Survey have evaluated the site. Maintenance crews also installed mesh barriers to keep debris contained.
