A Utah man and woman died Wednesday night after their vehicle rolled on Interstate 84 in Morgan County and it slammed into a wall.
Andrea L. Kaiser, age 25, of Clinton, and Nathan T. Imes, age 28, of Ogden, died at the scene.
Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Chris Simmons said the 2004 Volkswagen Jetta was westbound on I-84 about 9:30 p.m. when a Morgan County deputy's radar registered it as going 118 mph. As he pulled out to pull it over, Simmons said he lost sight of it and discovered the driver had lost control on a curve just east of Morgan city.
Simmons said it appeared the driver overcorrected, which caused the vehicle to roll and slam into a rock wall with so much force the car's engine was ejected.
He said Kaiser and Imes were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the car. He said drugs and alcohol weren't factors in the crash, just excessive speed.
