In the aftermath of his team's 80-51 smashing of the Utes Thursday night in Ogden, Weber State coach Randy Rahe had kind words for first-year Utes coach Larry Krystkowiak.

"He will do a phenomenal job down there," Rahe said. "He is a quality person and a quality coach. He's got a high quality coaching staff. They were dealt a bad hand this year. I dont think you could ask Dean Smith or anybody else to go in there and get this thing turned. it will take some time."

The Utes wrapped up their preseason with the loss, falling to 3-9 despite not playing another power conference team. But Rahe said Krystkowiak is making the best of a desperate situation that saw eight players transfer out of the Utah program after he was hired.

"He had to go find some players quickly," Rahe said. "It will take a couple of recruiting classes. I hope everyone stayspatient and gives him the time they need to get that turned around."
