Outside of Chile, few people may know the name Violeta Parra. The movie "Violeta Went to Heaven," directed by Andres Wood, aims to change that.

The movie stars Francisca Gavilán as Parra, who went from humble roots to become a famous singer, folklorist and artist — and Chile's national hero.

"Creation is a bird without a flight plan," Parra says in the trailer. "It never flies in a straight line."

"Violeta Went to Heaven" plays in the World Cinema Dramatic competition at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
