A 4-year-old Sandy boy was in serious condition Tuesday after he was hit by a car in his driveway, police said.

The child's father and a teenage brother were in an SUV backing out of the driveway shortly before 2 p.m. when they heard a thump, said Sandy Police Sgt. Jon Arnold.

When the teenager got out of the car, he found his brother on the ground. The boy was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center. His condition was downgraded to serious when he passed out on the way to the hospital, but doctors were able to stablize him on arrival and his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, Arnold said.
