Utah Jazz postgame wrap — Millsap sees big strides, Corbin on Favors at 5, Harris flips switch

Excerpts from postgame interviews Friday with Paul Millsap, Tyrone Corbin and Devin Harris.Millsap on returning to starting lineup: I just want to play, man. Anytime you step on the court you play to win. That's where we're trying to get. That's our goal is to win games and see where we get after the end of the season.Jazz sticking together and showing what they can do: Absolutely. We made big strides tonight. We talked about it and talked about it and we finally put it together. That's a big thing for us and hopefully we'll continue to do that.Derrick Favors: A seen a guy who's determined, determined. He took it amongst himself to make some things happen out there. You seen it in his energy. He played great defense tonight and we're going to need that from him throughout the season.

Corbin on Favors: He gave us a huge lift. Not only his offensive scoring but he got some huge rebounds. The effort he had on the defensive end of the floor, coming across — that last shot that Lou Williams missed, he came across and made a great effort to make him throw it up a little higher. … Just being himself. He's a big body who can really run the floor. Offensively, we can go to him on the post some. When he make the move crisp and hard he's pretty good. He has a tendency sometime to get past the guy and soften up a little bit. He's a young guy, it's a learning curve for him. We'll just keep — he's going to keep getting better. The more time he get on the floor, the better he will be.

Starting Favors at center in the future: We'll look at a lot of different things. Al is a huge part of what we're going to have to do here. He's a guy that we can go to on the block and get something good a lot of times. … Al is a guy we can get into in the post deep and you pretty much know what you're going to get there. And Derrick is learning. He has some inside-outside stuff. He got to learn when he go in there big, he got to be really big.Engaging Harris and pushing him during the game: You know what, I liked the energy he had. Whatever it takes, that's what we're going to try and do. We can communicate. I'm always willing to listen. The guys have been great in trying to respond to what we're trying to do and we're growing, we're getting better. We're still a young group together and we'll keep getting better and keep fighting and keep trying to figure it out. As long as we stay together as a group, we have a great chance of getting this thing worked out.First glimpse of what Jazz can do: In a game. I thought we had a pretty good training camp, the energy level was up. Then we had the first game over in Portland and I thought we struggled a little bit and we got away from it. We had the game back here and I thought we responded after not playing well in Portland. Then the first two games on the road is what it's going to be. Like you said, it's going to be a rollercoaster ride but we've got to continue to learn and we've got to continue to stay together and learn from our mistakes and get better soon.Gordon Hayward developing: He's a guy, we can put the ball in his hands. He came across at the end there and made a big, big shot at the free-throw line off the pick-and-roll. He can get in the paint and make some plays. But he again have to learn that when it's crunch time you've got to be strong — you almost have to be a little nasty; they're going to put bodies on you, they're going to put hands on you. He's capable of doing it.Buzz from the win: We do. Anytime you win, you feel better about what's going on. The last few days, man, it's been whew — it wasn't a lot of fun, to be honest with you. But it is what it is. We're young. We're going to have some ups and downs. But we've got to stay together.Harris on flipping a switch: It was more [based] on our defense. It's so much easier to run when we get stops, as opposed to taking the ball up and trying to run that way. When we play aggressively defensively, that allows me to get in transition, that allows me to play my best and guys get easier shots that way. Talking with Corbin: Just talking about what we see out there. What adjustments we can make and what he expects out of me and what he wants out of me, what plays to run. Normal stuff. … We get that ball, he wants to constantly push — good things happen. We obviously get to the free-throw line, guys get open shots. It's easy to break a team down in transition as opposed to a set defense.Mentally turning it on: Yeah. We've been talking about it the first couple games.
