Along with fresh-squeezed orange juice, a brisk walk and finding a $20 bill on the sidewalk, there's something rejuvenating—even resurrecting—about the sound of human voices in harmony, and without the cumbersome background of musical instruments.

The Whiffenpoofs of Yale, the nation's first and foremost collegiate a cappella group, have known this dictum by heart from 1909, the ensemble's founding year, right up to its last performance on NBC's "The Sing Off" reality show. With a rotating roster of 14 senior men chosen each year, the group is a regular feature at the White House and high-profile fundraisers too numerous to name. Most recently, the Whiffenpoofs shared the Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall with "Glee" cast member Darren Criss. Famous alumnus includes no less a figure than Cole Porter.

The Whiffenpoofs will sweep by Salt Lake City Jan. 7 at Westminster College for a special a cappella double-bill with Utah's own Noteworthy, Brigham Young University's highly-decorated female a cappella group. Both groups have graced "The Sing Off," but now's your one chance in a while to see the fine young men of Yale during their two-week tour of the Four Corners States, just before they depart for South America and, of all places, Antarctica.
