Two people were injured Wednesday afternoon when they were bitten by pitbulls at a Midvale home, authorities say.

Salt Lake County Animal Control Lt. Chris Klekas said the couple was walking about 12:40 p.m. up to a home in the 8200 block of Adams Street when they were bitten.

He said the pitbulls, one an adult and the other a few months old, were inside the house at the time. He said authorities were trying to determine how the dogs got access to the couple. Klekas said investigators weren't sure if the dog owner was home at the time.

He said the victims were gone by the time authorities arrived, so officers weren't yet sure about the severity of the injuries, but said the bites were not expected to be life-threatening. The two victims were receiving treatment at area hospitals.

He said the owner voluntarily turned both dogs over to animal control officers. The dogs were both later euthanized, Klekas said.
