Beautiful, strong, elegant ballerinas. Spinning, leaping, twirling. "The Nutcracker," performed by Ballet West. A classic ballet, with unforgettable music by Tchaikovsky that is performed all over the world.
Since I was 3 years old, attending "The Nutcracker" has been an annual tradition. It never ceases to amaze me. That they manage to repeat the exact same ballet every year since 1940 is remarkable.
Last week, I again went to see "The Nutcracker." I put on my nicest clothes for the ballet. Mom styled my hair to make sure it was perfect.
After arriving at the Capitol Theatre, it was clear that most people had different dress standards. Almost everyone was in jeans, sports jerseys and very casual clothing.
Ever since Brigham Young chose to settle here, Utah has had a very rich cultural history, and we should respect that tradition. When the ballet becomes a movie-theater-attire event, it worries me.
Utah is one of the best states in the country, so in our attire let's represent our culture, history and wonderful life.
