Utah forecast: Cloudy, near-freezing in north, sunny and windy south

Utah's mid-week forecast calls for partly cloudy and near-freezing daytime high temperatures in the north, while the state's southern reaches will bask in sunny but windy weather with highs in the 50s.

Overnight lows were predicted to be 15-to-20 degrees along the Wasatch Front, while southern Utahns looked for low temperatures ranging into the upper-20s. Southern Utah also was forecast to be buffeted Thursday by winds of up to 30 mph.

The Utah Avalanche Center said the risk for dangerous snow slides was "orange" or considerable in the western Uintas, while the mountains of Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake City and Provo were rated "yellow" or moderate for avalanche danger. Moab, in southeastern Utah, rated a "green" or low snow slide risk.

The Utah Division of Environmental Quality issued "green" or good air quality ratings statewide through Thursday.

Salt Lake City's highs were pegged at 33 and 35 degrees Wednesday and Thursday, respectively; Ogden 32 and 34 degrees; Provo 35s; Logan 26 and 30; Wendover 33 and 34; Duchesne 26 and 28; Cedar City 37 and 39; St. George 52 and 51; and Moab 43 and 41 degrees.
