USU Football: Matt Wells, more money and Boise State

Three weeks ago, Matt Wells was crowned Utah State's offensive coordinator after Dave Baldwin bolted for Colorado State.

Just like recruiting, however, no commitment is safe, as schools continue to cherry pick the brightest prospects. Coaching is no different.

Gary Andersen, USU's head coach, told the Tribune on Friday that Wells interviewed at Boise State a few weeks ago for the job of passing game coordinator.

"I know that he interviewed for the job," Andersen said.

Was he offered the job?

"No," was the answer from Andersen.

Was Andersen angry that his newly minted offensive coordinator took an interview?

"No, I'm not mad at all," Andersen said. "It was a tremendous opportunity. What I do know is that Matt is here, he's ready to go, and we're very happy to have him"

One wonders why a drop from offensive coordinator to passing game coordinator would be considered an opportunity?

Two reasons. One, the job would've supplied Wells with a significant bump in pay. Secondly, it's Boise State, one of the best programs in America, a program making the jump to a BCS conference.

Still, Wells is in Logan, and committed to the Aggies. It just shows how much of a commodity he truly is.
